The footballer wore a cape during the 2022 World Cup award ceremony.

"It is official clothing here. It is used for weddings, engagements and important celebrations. We liked that it was Messi who wore it," said Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the Qatar 2022 World Cup Organizing Committee.

The name of the transparent layer that Messi wore when he lifted the World Cup is "bisht" and it is part of the Qatari culture and the Arab world.

The captain was surprised by the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, but was placed under the watchful eye of FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

In the brief contact with the press in the mixed zone, Al Thawadi also took stock of the first World Cup in the Middle East.

"The Arab world was able to celebrate its World Cup and that is a source of pride for us. And also that the tourists from around the world who really got to know our country. We must strengthen the commitment to unite different cultures," he requested.

Al Thawadi noted that Qatar surely needs to improve "many things" and that it has the potential to do so.

After a month of competition and 64 matches in a single city, Qatar 2022 said goodbye with one of the most emotional finals in history and brought the format to a close with 32 selected participants.
